Description

“A long-overdue, borderline genius product that puts much-needed control back into the hands of homeowners.” - Wired Magazine

“SPAN is now the center of my smart home. I’ve been waiting most of my life for this product” - A SPAN customer

“The smart panel is to electrical panels as smartphones are to cell phones” - EnergySage review

Now anyone can preview the SPAN experience - no panel or login required! Download the app and tap on the “Simulated SPAN Home”.

SPAN reinvented the hundred year old electric panel to enable connected, resilient, all-electric homes. It replaces your existing electric panel and gives you control of every circuit in your home right from your phone.

SPAN’s onboard intelligence uses your energy data to give you interesting, actionable and previously unknown insight into your home. When paired with solar panels and a battery, SPAN gives you the best protection against power outages. And just like our electric cars, SPAN gets better over time with over-the-air software updates.

And now, your SPAN Home can include Drive, SPAN's new universal EV charger that gives you fast and dynamic charging without a service upgrade.

Great App, please make desktop dashboard!

The mobile app is great, no complaints. Really like the data and feature set. The only suggestions for improvement are:
1.) Make a desktop dashboard available via the web or web app to keep tabs on energy on a bigger screen.
2.) Create a smaller SPAN sub-panel in order to track data/power usage on separate buildings such as a shop or ADU that only has a few breakers needing monitored. A full size span would be overkill for a few breakers. Even something modular that can be added to specific sub panel breakers would be better than nothing.

Thank you SPAN team!

Pretty good concept, not the best execution

Something as simple as renaming circuits seems to be broken. Tech support offered to type in the name of those circuits for me.

Another strange issue is that you only are allowed a certain number of characters for a given circuit. This makes sense, but if I have multiple rooms with multiple devices on the same circuit, I want to put them in to the name. It’s crazy you have to click on the existing name of the circuit, and then use your finger to, scroll around in the text field before you can make changes. There is no pop-up window that allows you to see the entire description of the circuit as you name it, so inevitably you make mistakes.

As echoed by some other reviewers, it appears some of the data reported by the SPAN is substantially delayed, by hours. Other information, appears to be immediate, or perhaps every two or three seconds updated there is no way in the app to see what the frequency of updates will be forgiven pieces of data. This is inevitably going to be required when a public API is published. Doing automations in Home Assistant based on information from the SPAN is essential.

Basic inconsistencies

The app can’t give real-time stats everything is delayed back to the top of the hour and most of the time that doesn’t happen. Today for example it’s 2pm but only shows data since 3am yesterday. Eventually it will update but it’s never consistent.

The other issue is while the app shows data for circuits, it’s not actionable or useful beyond looking at it. For example, it would be great to be able to set notifications when a breaker is no longer pulling power. Like a notification when the washer or dryer breaker stops drawing power.

Last but not least, is the app has lots of data issues. The solar production and grid usage in my Span app doesn’t match what shows in my Tesla App. It’s off by a ton so the main point of this app to provide data doesn’t even work properly. I have verified with the utility that Tesla is properly displaying data and it’s in fact on Spans side. I have reached out to support which said they were working on the issues but it’s been awhile and nothing about this app has been fixed.

All in all, I am disappointed in the span panel and wish I had researched the product a bit more to understand what it was capable of. It only supports Alexa and that doesn’t work either. Hopefully Span will be able to get it working more reliably but for now. I rarely if ever use my Span app.
